FEAP 3b
Deepen and enrich students’ understanding of through content area literacy strategies, verbalization of thought, and application of subject matter.

I demonstrated FEAP 3b throughout my instruction during my final internship. From a district IMPACT Review, I was made aware of the importance of using verbalization of thought, or think-alouds, as a form of modeling during instruction. I incorporated this across all content areas, but specifically during reading instruction and during phonics instruction, for intentionally encoding words. By using verbalization of thought when applying common spelling rules, students thought more intentionally about how to correctly spell the sounds they heard. I even made note of students utilizing a think-aloud themselves when encoding words using the vCe rule. I also utilized think-alouds for using context clues to find relevant details during reading instruction.
